What is skin elasticity?
The ability of our skin to stretch and then go back to normal is called elasticity. The condition where the skin loses its elasticity is called elastosis. Unfortunately, elastosis happens to everyone. It is a natural aging process that every human being has to experience. Due to this fact, scientists admit that this natural condition happens due two main factors: Genetics and Lifestyle. We cannot do much about the first one but the second one is caused completely by our lifestyle choices which include smoking, drinking, and by Sun damage when we keep our skin unprotected etc.
We have to understand that the main goal is not to eliminate elastosis process. Our main goal should be to postpone it as much as possible. And this, fortunately, is something we can do!
Here are some natural, affordable actions that everyone should take in order to have a healthy, elastic and youthful skin…
What to do?
“You are what you eat”. This old quote cannot be any truer than that! A poor diet, an inefficient water intake, smoking and alcohol abusement, are considered to be one of the most important factors which cause premature aging!
Be aware of the amount of water you drink during a day. Water nourishes our cells, including our skins cells too. For a well-hydrated skin, it is recommended that an adult should at least drink 9-12 cups of water per day.
Just like the water, fruits and vegetables play a vital role in our skin’s health and elasticity. Try to eliminate processed and high in fat foods as much as you can. Diary should be avoided and also, try to focus more on fruits and vegetables. Tuna and salmon are high in Omega mega 3 fatty acids and also vitamin C which strengthens our immune system and then, our hair and skins health.
Did you know that from some recent studies, dermatologists found that lutein, an antioxidant mostly found in leafy green vegetables can improve our skin’s elasticity by almost 20%?
Avoid Sun exposure especially when a proper sunscreen is not been applied
Sun rays do strongly damage the skin’s barrier. Cells that contain the pigment melanin are within the skin’s epidermal layer. Melanin is the element which protects our skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. These rays can significantly damage the skin and over time, reduces its elasticity and cause a person to age prematurely.
Wearing sunscreen is something everyone should consider and let it become part of every skin care routine. Try to avoid Sun exposure, especially between 10, am and 2 pm, when the Sun’s rays have the highest powers.
Beware of what you put on your skin
The first, and most important thing to consider is using a good moisturizer! The dermatologist will always recommend you to follow a simple and well-divided skin regimen which contains an essential skin care steps. Respectively: washing, moisturizing, exfoliating and nourishing by applying a mask or serum that you know it works for you. Try to gently wash your face by removing all the accumulated dirt which can permanently damage the skin’s health which then leads to the loss of elasticity. When choosing a moisturizer, try to select a natural-oriented one, rich in vitamins and antioxidants which give an immediate effect and hydration on every skin. Natural herbs and botanicals such as sage, ginger, rosemary and chamomile, brewed in distilled water and then refrigerated, can serve as a powerful skin toner which strongly increases the skin’s elasticity.
Retinol, also known as vitamin A, is a powerful element that we can found in multiple face care products. It prevents aging effects. Did you know that some studies have shown that vitamin C when comes in a creamy form, can play a very important part in preventing the skin’s elasticity loss? Of course, every dermatologist cannot claim otherwise when it comes to eating those fruits and vegetables which contain these powerful vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals as a more effective route.
In conclusion, despite the fact we cannot prevent the aging process, there are quite a lot of changes we can all make in order to prevent a premature one. Elastosis may be a normal thing to happen, but it is not normal to happen early! The main point is, if we stay loyal to these effective methods, it is almost certain that we can prevent our premature aging process!
