Aegyeo sal or aegyeo eyes are one of Korea’s beauty trend. You might find weird yet interesting at the same time.
While the whole world is fighting hard to conceal those puffy under eyes, the Korean beauty trend says the other way around. Those puffy looking eye bags are actually a lovely thing. In this post, I will introduce to you the Korean aegyeo eyes trend or the “AEGYEO SAL”
Firstly, what is aegyeo sal? Aegyeo Sal or Aeygeyo eyes means “eye smile” or a more direct translation would be “cute eyes” (Kor: aegyeo = cute). It is the puffy eye bags under the eyes that make the eyes look a little squinting and cute. However, it is different from the eye bags that we know. Eye bags caused by lack of sleep and tiredness are dark and are usually known as panda eyes. Aegyeo sal are more like light-colored fat bags under the eyes that make the eyes a bit more enhanced and youthful
Some of the Korean celebrities that we know who sports this look are top celebrity Goo Hye Sun, Idol turned actress, SNSD- Seohyun, teen star Kim Sohyun and even male celebrities like BAP’s Daehyun.
So how do we achieve this Aegyeo sal?
While some people have natural puffy under eyes and cute eye smiles, those who doesn’t can actually still wear this kind of look.
Surgeries, for one, are available for you to have. Fillers are injected to the under eye for the natural aegyeo eyes all day every day. However, if surgery is not your thing then makeup can still do the trick.
Some cosmetic companies have products specifically intended for the egyeo sal makeup. You can either use that for a more convenient application or just use your own pallet that has natural brown color and shimmery white tones.
So for those who are actually wondering how to get this look with just your own pallet, here I’ll help you with a step by step application:
What we need here is a natural coffee or beige color that is not so shimmery. Matte types are better I believe and don’t use a dark brown color for it will end up looking like dark circles. And then a shimmery/pearly shade of champagne or white to pair with it. And let’s start
1: Locate your aegeyo sal; you can do this by smiling. Although you might think you have no natural aegyeo sal, that little bag you see when you smile is actually your natural aegyeo sal. So use that for reference.
Use the brown tone to outline the aegyeo sal as how you have located them earlier.
2: Fill in. After you have outlined the aegyeo sal, fill in the area where the puffy-watery bag should be using your pearly light toned color. Apply also on the inner lines of your eyes like a semi-eye liner. The pearly effect helps the aegyeo sal pop out even more.
3: Enhance the aegyeo sal more. You can do this by lining the outer corner of your eye with a dark brown or black color. Extend the eyeliner from the corners to the middle of your eyes until it meets the pearly shade from the other corner. Lining the outer corner of the eye makes that side of the eyes pull in. And it enhance the aegyeo sal on the inner corners of the eye
Creating cute eye smile that stays there naturally is not a hard task. A little addition to your daily makeup routine would do the trick.
So are you ready to step on this Korean beauty trend for the New Year?
